This page holds various items that I did for Jovian Chronicles. These sketches were done rapidly to show the artists what I had in mind for each particular design. They are placed in no particular order.
These were among the first concepts I made for the exo-armors. For a while, we considered a very "hard science" design with solar panel wings, deployable heatsinks, ion propulsion and vestigial legs, but it was somewhat boring.
This was my first idea for the Pathfinder. I originally wanted to stay away from a purely humanoid looks. The original ("green book") designs were in a similar vein.
Sketches for the Confederation's Prometheus Tetra advanced prototype. The design is taken from Wunji Lau's excellent concept miniature (which is a reversal of usual procedures -- usually, the mini comes after the art!).
The original design sketch for the Venusians' Ryu exo-armor. It was pretty much unchanged in the published game.
A quick sketch to show how the Syreen's arm unfolds, and what its axis of movement are. You can also see how the arms can be used as landing gear.
This an inked version of the very first sketch of an exo that I made while I was still in university. Tiny legs, because I figured you don't really need those in space. My quick scan is very poor, so you can't really make out the myomers and articulations in the limbs. (No armor there -- little point, in space, and too heavy.)
A technical breakdown of the Vampyr's major systems, showing the various equipment, how the drive pods worked, and where the micro-fusion cores were located.
The first sketch of the Syreen. At the time, I saw it as a very "slapped together" vehicle, and the boxy shapes reflected this. Interesting note: the belly-mounted ACDLS wasn't present, but the head had a built-in shotgun. The name "Syreen" came both from the legless shape and from the ECM system used to lure in opponents.
"Big Bertha" was a concept pitched by Jovian's original co-creator Etienne Gagnon. He saw this huge exo-ship that would carry and refuel friendly craft. In the end, she never made it into the game universe, though the mention of the exo-ship as a size category got left into the book.
The "Moth" was a quick exo-armor sketch. Nothing fancy, but I think it could wrap itself in its drive pods.
The "Butterfly" was another quick sketch. The drive pods are obviously inspired by the ones on the Gundam GP-01 from the "Stardust Memory" anime.
